Voting is one of the most important responsibilities of citizenship. The state elections began with primary gubernatorial races on Tuesday morning. Candidates gave a short speech and then answered questions.

Somewhere in the midst of all the speeches, there was time for some Fast Song practice. The citizens receive a state government overview from Jenise Gordon. Laura Trott presents a legislative overview.

2008 Girls State governor Taylor Cox greets Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen. Governor Bredesen inspired the citizens to treat chance as their friend. The citizens had plenty of good questions for the Governor.

The county mayors introduced the other county officials from the stage. The 2009 Volunteer Girls State county mayors. Susannah Griffee, left, was elected as the Nationalist Party nominee for governor. Nikki Kapu was elected as the Federalist Party nominee.
