The process of unloading luggage took quite a few helpers. Citizens received city assignments at registration. The bookstore offered many fashionable choices.

The American flag was carried to the stage to begin the assembly. The 2006 VGS governor, Courtney Pannell, gave the citizens a challenge for the week. Everyone was honored to have Pat Wallace, the Tennessee Department American Legion Auxiliary President, on hand to offer her greeting.

Julia Wells, chairwoman of VGS, greeted the 61st session of Girls State. Director Martha Kelly also gave the delegates a warm welcome. And now it's time for a WVGS newsbreak.
